All Together Now

After getting the front end all assembled, it was time to put the rest of things back together that I had been pulling apart to clean up while it was all apart.

A major cleanup item was the engine. It was riddled with aluminum oxide, not to mention dirt and grease.

I pulled off the starter cover and air cleaner housing, which together, comprise the top portion of the engine. They were especially bad, and it took some serious work to get rid of the oxidation. In the end, they cleaned up nicely.
Wow, that's bad

This is going to take some work

Looking pretty good...

It was a lot of work, but it all came clean
The black paint is really bad

But a fresh coat and it's looking good!

Here it is all nice and clean looking!

The other major offender was the timing cover on the front of the engine. It was just as bad as the top side.
Again, major oxidation
The exhaust was really bad, too, but I got the rust off

About to dive into the deep clean

All cleaned up
And installed back on the bike. Oh, yeah.

I also put a fair amount of work into the engine block, but that area looked worse than it really was. Some simple green, followed by some soapy water cleaned up most of it. The rest came off with a wire brush on my dremel tool.

It all looks really nice and clean in the front and middle sections now.

The rear end still needs some attention, but everything is put back together now. I hope to get it started up and take it for a test ride in the next day or so.
After that, I'll concentrate on cleaning up the rear wheel and inspect the brake, and anything else that pops up on my test ride.
